Whitney Weddell is one of the founders and currently chair of Bakersfield LGBTQ. She was raised in Bakersfield where she attended West High, BC, and CSU Bakersfield. She has been active in the local community since the infamous Tyack Murder Trial of the early 1980s. She has watched the local community grow dramatically, with great satisfaction, since those early tumultuous days. She currently teaches social studies and dreams of, one day, building a full-service community center in Bakersfield. She and her partner currently live in Central Bakersfield where they raise their pet rats.
Shelby Himes, the Vice Chair of Bakersfield LGBTQ, was born and raised in Bakersfield. She has been active in the local community ever since she found this group in 2004. While going to school and working full time, she not only finds the time to serve as V.C., but also acts as the Pride Entertainment Coordinator. She and her partner currently raise their dogs in North-East Bakersfield.
Administrative Assistant:
Lori Renee is the Administrative Assistant for Bakersfield LGBTQ. She has also served our group, in the past, as Director of Finance. Her commitment to the local community also afforded her the opportunity to be the Director of Finance for PFLAG over several years. As a bookkeeper and dedicated partner, she has found a strong position in Bakersfield as one of our community leaders. She is dedicated to helping everyone she can and ensuring our community continues to grow. She lives in Central Bakersfield with her partner and their pet rats.
Paul Alexander (AKA Paul-Leona) is the only transgendered/bisexual/married member of the board of directors for Bakersfield LGBTQ. He is serving as a Director at Large in hopes of helping strengthen and unite the local communities. His personal goal is to help everyone learn to accept and understand themselves.
Bakersfield LGBTQ thanks its first corporate sponsor!
De Williams is a Bakersfield native who has been "out" since the age of 16. He is an original member of LGBTQ, volunteer with BAP, and a member of the Fantasy Girls (the longest running drag show in Bakersfield). De's diverse background and experience allows him to be a voice for many of our community members, especially the younger generations.
